The Downieville / Graeagle Tour
THE TRIP:
We’ll start the trip by driving to Auburn, taking some little known backroads that will allow us to arrive at Hwy 49 North of all those Auburn traffic lights. We’ll then travel Hwy 49 to Grass Valley for a quick rest and coffee stop. We’ll pass through Nevada City and from there, we’ll continue on Hwy 49 to Downieville. We’ll spend a few minutes browsing through town where we can check out the shops and the once-used gallows on display there. From Downieville, we’ll continue on Hwy 49 until it intersects with county road S620. We’ll take S620 past Gold Lake and on to Graeagle; this should be a gorgeous ride this time of year. Lunch is scheduled at the Plumas Pines Golf Course in Graeagle. After lunch we’ll drive South on Hwy 89 through Sattley, Sierraville, and on to Truckee. We’ll stop in Truckee for ice cream, then head back toward home via old historic Hwy 40 West along Donner Lake and over Donner Pass. This is going to be a “dynamite” trip.
